Rockers ONLAP discuss new song, “Hole in my Heart”

Picture: Romina Leyva (@nomadaia)[/caption] Hello ONLAP, thanks for your time. Would it be please possible to introduce your band to our readers? Yes, with pleasure! We are a French alternative rock band (singing in English) created in 2006 in Paris. The current line-up is more than 10 years old. For many years, we have been focusing on releasing a lot of music because we love it, as well as collaborating with many other artists from around the world. How would you describe the French rock scene? Pretty cool! Actually, there are a lot of indie bands in France, and we think it's great. There are a lot of rock bands, and also a lot of metal bands, styles that we obviously love. We've been in contact with a certain number of them over the years, and also via collaborations for ONLAP and for our side-project Youth Never Dies. The metal scene seems to be very strong at the moment, and it's great. You've recently revealed a new song, “Hole in my Heart”, featuring Trevor McNevan of Thousand Foot Krutch and Autumn Kings. How did this collaboration happen? Quite naturally in fact. We worked as a team on this song with an American studio and several artists, and they played the song to Trevor who liked it and agreed to collaborate on it. It's a huge honor and pleasure, our biggest collaboration yet! Can we talk about the story behind this song? Where did you find your inspiration? This song was co-written with the American teams. The subject is quite revealing with the title “HOLE IN MY HEART” and can cover many trials of life in which everyone can recognize himself. That's often the principle of ONLAP songs really, broad themes that are meant to speak to everyone, we don't have many songs with specific things in them, I think. It looks like you're going to release another song, along with a music video in June. Should we expect an album anytime soon? Possible! For years, we have preferred to get out of the single. It allows a huge freedom and especially to release music continuously. We will probably release another compilation album like “FIFTEEN” (which celebrated our 15 years of existence), because it's always nice to gather the songs of a period in an album, but it's not in our project at the moment. If you had to create a 5-song playlist that best represents your band, what songs would you choose and why? WOW, impossible answer ahaha! So, I’m just gonna try to give 5 legendary songs, among thousands… Linkin Park – Numb Skillet – Monster Evanescence – Bring me to life Seether – Gasoline Papa Roach – Last Resort The 00’s NU METAL built us as we are today, and those songs from that time are just legendary (Skillet being more recent), we could put here around 1000 songs or more ahah. In short, we’re directly a band from the 00’s!! Now that live shows are more or less resuming in France, will we have the chance to see you live this year? Do you already have some tour dates planned? Actually, for different reasons, we don’t play live very often now. But we’ll play some shows this year hopefully, should be confirmed soon and announced on our networks. Our plan is more like that, play some shows from time to time, ‘cause of course we love this, and we love being together with people, as it’s always an amazing time to meet fans coming to see us live. The last words are for you. If you have a message to convey, here’s your chance! We wrote a song about this last year, for our 15 years but our main message is: we never thought we’d get here today, 15 years later. The support of fans is just crazy, this is incredible. We’re so and deeply honored and blessed to have them. We answer any DM since 2006, this is an amazing journey. This is also amazing to work with all those artists/bands (we’ll have 12 or 13 collaborations in 2022), all great, from everywhere in the world. We’re grateful for this all. Can’t wait to go on for another 15 years!! Thanks a lot for the interview, Valentine and Distrolution!!! Always a pleasure!! Thanks for your time!
