Punk rockers The Coffinhunters drop 'Outta My Head'!
“The initial inspiration for the Coffinhunters came while re-discovering how great the classic Nuggets garage rock compilation is. The result was about six songs written and demoed in a garage rock meets 80’s Midwestern punk (think Toxic Reasons, Zero Boys, Haunting Souls, Articles of Faith etc) vain. Of those six songs only the song “Outta My Head” was recorded for the eventual Coffinhunters release.
The band decided to focus on making the release less one dimensional by including two songs of different styles than the original impetus of the band. The other two inclusions “Torsion” and “Get Lost” are inspired by 80’s west coast punk and post punk/shoegaze respectively.
Outta My Head was considered the strongest of the original 6 songs recorded due to its large hook and effective gang backing vocals. The song is about the struggle to discard of something or someone that may not be good for you but isn’t the easiest thing to give up. All 3 songs on the Coffinhunters release took 2 days to record and several passes at a mix. It was recorded at Popside Studio just north of Dayton OH by Micah Carli. The studio was perfect for what the band wanted to accomplish and Micah did a great job of offering suggestions on guitar and bass tones as well as keeping the atmosphere super creative.” reveals the band.
