Meet the French metal / hardcore band, Forest in Blood

Hello Forest in Blood, thanks for your time. Would it be possible to introduce your band to our readers, as well as your roles in it? Hey Valentine, thanks again for the interest you show in our band! So long story short, Forest in Blood arise in 1998 with Barth and Elie. Big fans of Slayer, Sepultura, thrash and hardcore, they wanted to create a band that would mix up all of these. As for me, I’m Nech, drummer in the band since 2010. I’ve more or less been the 6th member of the band for ages, following them as roadies. With a worldwide pandemic going on, how have you handled the management of your band over the past few months? Our PIRATE tour coming to an end toward September/ October 2019, the urge to create and compose another album just arose naturally. We all had ideas about what the next songs should sound like. And because we’ve all been playing together for such a long time, songs just naturally take form, almost in one shot. Finally, everyone touch helps create the osmosis of the titles. It’s true that this period is not overly culture friendly, but I guess we were lucky enough to record all our titles before lockdown hit France. Thanks to this, we had the opportunity to be precise and demanding for each and every song. As for Andrew from HYBREED STUDIO, he really managed to catch the essence of what we wanted the album to sound like. You've dropped your album “Haut et Court” a few weeks ago. How long have you worked on this release? It took us more or less 3 months to decide, time for everyone to agree on the titles we would include in the album and the colors they should have. We are all “maniacs” with one another and we always tend to try to grow and do better than before. Therefore, it took us two months to record the whole album, as we wanted each instrument to sound as sharp as possible. Any funny stories to share from your writing or recording sessions? Recording chorus and backing vocals is usually the funniest moments. Especially when you’re not singers and you’ve been under pressure for the whole recording session… relaxing with too much rum helps a lot! You've also released a lyric video for your single “Real Game of Gallows”. Would you say this single is the one that best reflects the overall spirit of your album? Absolutely! You can find in this song all our influences. From, Slayer to Suicidal tendencies through hardcore bands like Madball, Hatebreed. The soundtrack of our life… For example, with “Real Game of Gallows”, we start by an introduction with airy guitars and a heavy drum like Slayer. Following the intro, we are launching a speed part influenced by Thrash/punk bands with a fast and aggressive. Then, a hardcore chorus with a groovy drum, aggressive guitars and old-school backing vocals. To resume… A mix of thrash and hardcore! Can we talk about the process of creating the artwork of your album and the overall idea behind this visual? For “Haut et court”, we wanted to stick to the Pirate’s drama story. Like for “Pirates” we would like to have drawing cover. A unique cover designed by a French artist. Therefore, it did not take us long time to accept and collaborate with HERVE COSTA. He has the same spirit of the band… We shared the title of the album with him, the concept of the album around loss of freedom and freedom of expression and he immediately started to work on it. It was a great collaboration, as he understood exactly what we had in mind.

The last words are for you. If you have a message to convey, here’s your chance! If you did not accept Slayer’s retirement and you like hardcore, this album is PIRATE’s proud descendant. As for now, “HAUT ET COURT” is the only breath of fresh air you can safely take in without a fucking chirurgical mask! Thanks for your time!
