Learn more about Eleven Ounces' debut EP!

Like every week, we're back to introduce you guys to new up and coming independent bands. This time, the French rockers Eleven Ounces were kind enough to answer a couple of questions for us. Learn more about their debut EP in the following interview!

Hello guys! Please tell us about the origins of Eleven Ounces. What inspired you to delve into the world of music?

Hi! Eleven Ounces was formed in 2021 in Toulon (France) we used to play in different local rock or metal bands before that. We’ve all been friends for many years and as our projects came to an end, we decided to make a new one together. We didn’t really know what or how to begin with but we quickly found out which style and approach we wanted. That’s how Eleven Ounces was born.

You have recently revealed your debut EP on major streaming platforms. How long have you worked on this release?

Before working on our debut EP, we released 2 singles on Youtube on december 2021 and february 2022 (What it takes and Let them rain). Good feedbacks made us confident about our musical identity. After that, we spent a long time writing and entirely producing what has become our EP. It takes time and it took us a whole year to be honest. The EP was release on september 202

Can you dig into the themes and inspirations behind it?

The lyrics are all about human relationships, conflicts and the struggle everyone knows when its comes to dealing with one’s past. As for the music, everything that’s simple, energic and good inspired us. We’re influenced by pop music, metal, rap, rock or punk. We don’t want to limit our reflection, we just want catchy and modern.

How would you describe your usual writing process? How do you split the roles within the band?

That’s really simple, actually… First, Alex brings us riff ideas, most of the time he comes to rehearsal with a chorus or a verse. Then Fabien and Olivier write the bass and drum matching parts. Jessica writes the lyrics and singing melodies. Then, we all work on the song’s structure and arrangement together. Some of our songs keep changing even now.

Who's the artist behind the artwork of your EP and what does the visual represent?

Well, actually, that’s Alex, our guitarist who had the idea for this visual. And as none of us has photogenic hands, he asked his son to model. It represents a hand keeping a door closed on the past, just like after a settling of scores, in tune with the lyrics of our songs.

Your first two singles allowed you to perform locally. How did your first concerts go?

The first concerts are always worrying. We wondered if we would be convincing. We were clearly stressed but eventually overcame all this and everything went well. We got many positive feedbacks and we’re so pleased that people like our music. It’s always amazing to be finally able to show the fruit of our efforts.

As we wrap up, what can your fans look forward to in the coming months? Any exciting plans for live performances or future projects you'd like to share?

By the end of the year, we hope we’ll be performing once or twice shows in Marseille. As for 2024… We would like to play wherever in France or in other countries if we got the chance to, we’re in talks with a certain management agency for that. We’re always writing new songs too...
