Introducing the French metallers, Second Day!

Hello Second Day, thanks for your time. Would it be please possible to introduce your band to our readers, as well as your roles in it? Hello Distrolution, thank you for this interview. Second Day is a metal band with several influences: epic metal, folk metal, death metal, alternative metal and others styles as dark folk. Crossing different things will always be something inspiring for me, so we frequently have variations of ambiance and intensity in our tracks. The band consists of Lucas Sassi Sancien (bass), Quentin Mavon (drums), Grégory Moustache (guitar), Dominique Gressot (Keyboard, Vocals) and myself, François Gressot (Guitar, Vocals). With a worldwide pandemic going on, how have you handled the management of your band over the past few months? It was already difficult for us to play on stage: we are not professionals and metal style require certain places to be played. Pandemic is for sure a reason to reorient our work in a different way. No more collective meetings, so we better have to improve ourselves on our own and focus on creation rather than live shows. For this reason, our next goal is the first album planned for 2021! You've recently revealed your debut EP, “Three Wizards”, on major streaming platforms. What was the writing process for this EP? This EP is our very first, so it has something… original about the text. As the writer and composer of Second Day, I wanted to try to make the songs linked to each other by a story. So, this opus consists of a narration in heroic fantasy theme, talking about heroes and gods. It’s quite metaphoric and mystic sometimes, and can be seen as an introduction to what’s coming next… About the instrumental parts, we were willing to offer shaded structures already: bands like Naïve, Alcest or Hypno5e have always been very inspiring for me. After I compose, I usually suggest a demo version to the other members and they are working on it. In the end, each one plays his part in his own feeling after we decided how to proceed about the different contents and the structure. Any story to share from your recording or writing sessions? This story deals with our writing process, and the reason why I have chosen this narrative approach. In reality, the choice was not really mine… Second Day still existed when I arrived 3 years ago (it went by the sexy name “Second Day Fighters”, epic metal being the main influence at this moment). The lead singer was not me, and suggested this kind of story for our texts. I was not against the idea and began to compose. “Scourge of men” were created, then “Threat”, months passing by and… our singer leaving. Then, I took the place of lead singer and continued the writing process this way. It was still a pleasant experience but now I’m thrilled to make something more personal. If you had to pick one song that, according to you, best reflects the overall spirit of this EP… Which one would you pick and why? I would say “Shapes Rampage”, firstly because it’s maybe our favorite one, we can’t get bored playing it. Then, this song regroups very different ambiences, proposing a lot of relief. That’s typically what I like to do. I’m sure you are, like a lot of people, missing live shows. Do you already have some dates planned for 2021 to promote “Three Wizards”? Yes, we miss live shows and festivals for sure. Unfortunately, we don’t have any plans for 2021 and we hope that the situation will permit it. Of course, it’s complicated for everyone and I suppose that not many artists can project themselves during the next months. But we can see, as well, an opportunity to run our own creation deeper. The last words are for you. If you have a message to convey, here’s your chance to talk about it! I wanted to say hi to Guillaume of the band Swarmageddon! He made the record of our first EP “Three Wizards” and we appreciated his work and humanity. And thank you again Distrolution for your attention, I hope we will see you again! Thanks for your time!
