Fishing with Guns are about to release their new EP!

Picture: Stéphane Blanch / Studio Sainte-Marthe Hello Fishing with Guns, thanks for your time. Would it be please possible to introduce your band to our readers? Hi Distrolution readers! FWG is a five members band from Paris created in 2005 mixing elements of hardcore and Rock ‘n’ roll. We are mostly influenced by bands like Norma Jean, Every Time I die or Converge. You're about to release your EP “Under the Silver Lake” on September 17th. A few words to describe it? This upcoming EP is somewhat inspired by the movie “Under the Silver Lake” directed by David Robert Mitchell. It blends tight heavy metal core riffs with harsh vocals and brings a pinch of melody on the choruses. It was recorded at Studio Sainte Marthe by Francis Caste (Bukowski, Dysfonctional by choice, Hangman’s Chair…). How long have you worked on this EP? We worked on the EP for 2 years. It was originally planned to be an LP, but the two past years were marked with loss and birth, so we had to change our plans. We had five songs ready to burst and postponing the recording was not an option for us then. How’s your usual writing process? We used to write while rehearsing to keep the spontaneity and the live energy. Mickey’s arrival in the band, the Covid 19 crisis and the inability to see each other changed that process. Now, Mickey sends us a song already structured, as we are all equipped at home to record our own parts, it allows us to be more efficient and really think on how we want to arrange the music. Is there one song that, according to you, best reflects the overall spirit of this EP? If yes, which one and why? That’s not an easy question 😊 I am convinced that all the songs blend perfectly on the EP. If I had to choose one that really stands out, it would be “Homeless Ghost”. It is the perfect single and it combines all the elements from the EP, harsh riffs and melodic choruses. Nonetheless, my real heart choice is “Owl’s Kiss”. I really love that chorus that gives an unexpected grungy feeling to the song that reminds me bands like Stone Temple Pilot or Soundgarden. Can we talk about the process of creating the artwork and the overall idea behind this visual? The artwork was created by our good friend and ex drummer Max Treillard. The process behind it was something like me calling him and giving him misleading and contradictory suggestions. Hopefully he did not listen to me (that much) and took the time to read the lyrics. Two weeks later, he came at a rehearsal with this artwork, and we all knew that it was the perfect fit.

The last words are for you. If you have a message to convey, here’s your chance! Dude! Stop reading that interview while pooping and go listen to our EP NOW!
