Psychic Equalizer is a prog rock band formed by musicians of different nationalities and musical backgrounds. Started by Spanish pianist and composer Hugo Selles in 2011, it began as a solo project, mostly in the electronic ambient music field with elements of jazz and classical piano. The idea was to create musical landscapes suggesting different emotional atmospheres and states of mind. In recent years, Psychic Equalizer evolved towards a prog rock sound, and expanded to include keyboardist Adrian Ubiaga (6), singer and multi-instrumentalist India Hooi (Australia) and guitarist Carlos Barragán (Colombia). The four members’ classical training and professional experience in playing a myriad of genres results in an original and exciting sound combining virtuosity, harmonic richness and boldly creative arrangements.

The San Francisco Bay Area has a history steeped in forward-thinking, technically dazzling metal, and NITE carries that torch with pride. Founded in 2018, their blackened heavy metal brand barrels towards the peril of an unknown future, while keeping one eye on the days when blistering leads once ruled the land. Guitarists Van Labrakis (Satan’s Wrath, Mencea) and Scott Hoffman (Dawnbringer, High Spirits) let loose galloping riffs and harmonies that evoke the classic sounds of the N.W.O.B.H.M., with Labrakis’ grizzled voice driving their dark, melodic metal into the modern era.
With Avinash Mittur (Wild Hunt) replacing founding bassist Bryan Coons in early 2021, he and drummer Patrick Crawford (Serpents of Dawn, Older Sun) make up a rhythm section that’s fierce yet breathlessly precise: a freewheel pounding reminiscent of the early days of heavy metal, with a Rickenbacker-powered roar fueling the low end. NITE’s debut full-length Darkness Silence Mirror Flame, released in March 2020 by Creator-Destructor Records, earned widespread praise. It showcased their fist-raising classic heavy metal that nearly every fan of the genre once fell in love with, but with a twisted and shadowy edge that the titans of old could never imagine. NITE is the flame of the past illuminating the darkness of tomorrow.

The definition of commitment is getting something tattooed on you, and that’s what Gen and the Degenerates have done. They believe deeply in the beautifully riotous noise they’re making, so much so that the whole band went for matching tattoos. Combining the edge of Joan Jett & the Blackhearts with the rock n roll heart of The Struts, Gen and the Degenerates have a true commitment to the sound of what they’re creating.

Truth & Tragedy is the hardcore duo your mothers, teachers and priests warned you about. Whether you have a reason to rage or you’re in the market for another, T&T have plenty to go around: if it’s Freddy’s heavy riffs and unforgiving breakdowns you’re after, or Aaron’s coarse screams and predilection for guns, violence and outlaws, you might want to lend an ear. Formed in Bamberg, Germany in 2020, the US/German duo are the lovechild of lockdown boredom and a predisposition for being loud.
Although a far cry from his classical guitar and jazz scores, Frederik “Shred it Fred” Stauss lets loose with his head-banging, concussion-inducing riffs, monstrously tantalizing breakdowns, and dizzying guitar solos that are sure to get your hackles up.
For screams that have neighbours unsure of whether to call the police or an exorcist, and lyrics that pull on old country outlaw ballads, gunslinger anthems, and his own experiences as a soldier in Afghanistan, Aaron “The Amazin’” Bazen takes you with him on the adventures, traumas, victories and ghosts which are at the heart of the duo’s music.
At times nihilistic, occasionally vengeful and always emotionally raw, Truth & Tragedy is exploding onto the hardcore scene, bringing a little darkness and a little light, and a whole lot of noise.
