Nearly 20 years later, Shrill releases its album...
Composed and mostly recorded at the time, it was unfinished until today.During high school in 1999, we started playing together in an attic in
Arradon, western France. The main musical influences of the band ranged from classic and
alternative rock to heavy metal, we liked the sounds of bands such as
Metallica, The Smashing Pumpkins, Megadeth, Placebo...
Heavy guitars, strong bass and powerful drums to make heads bang!We were rehearsing several times a week and playing small concerts in
the area.
Soon we wanted to distribute our music but our recording possibilities
were limited.
We managed to self-produce 3 tracks, released on the eve of 2000 (burned
CDs with home-printed b&w covers).Professional life for some and studies for others got us away from
rehearsals, recordings and eventually from the band. But (many) years later the bitter taste of unfinishedness still lingered...
We recorded what was missing, re-recorded what needed to be, mixed and
mastered our tracks.
Some precious technical advices and a release date later, here we are.I wonder how many bands have similar stories.
There must be many hidden musical gems laying around.
I don't know if what we came up with is valuable or not but it's here,
now, and it was worth it. -
Line-up
Adam Jarvis: drums
Mark Kloeppel: guitar, vocals
Jason Netherton: bass, vocals
Darin Morris: guitarIn their 16-year existence, MISERY INDEX have released five studio albums, several EPs and performed well over 1000 concerts in 44 Countries. MISERY INDEX began as a studio project in 2001, when vocalist and bassist Jason Netherton (ex-DYING FETUS) joined together with guitarist / vocalist Mike Harrison and drummer Kevin Talley (ex-DYING FETUS) to record their debut EP “Overthrow”. This five-song death/grind attack received considerable praise in underground circles, shifting Misery Index into a full time project with the addition of Sparky Voyles (ex-DYING FETUS) on guitar.
In 2002, Mike Harrison and Kevin Talley left the band to focus on other projects and the latter was replaced by Matt Byers, who took up drum duties for their first US tour that summer in support of KATAKLYSM. In 2003, MISERY INDEX released their first full-length “Retaliate”, to exceptional reviews and numerous tours in Europe and North America supporting bands such as DYING FETUS, AMON AMARTH, DEICIDE, and NILE. In 2004 a video for “The Great Depression” was released, complimenting their first live DVD, which featured a full set recorded in Athens, Greece. Later in 2004, Adam Jarvis (also currently of PIG DESTROYER and SCOUR) took over on drums, just in time for MISERY INDEX to hit such European festivals as Wacken Open Air, Brutal Assault, and Party.San Open Air, followed with more touring alongside bands such as BEHEMOTH, NAPALM DEATH, SUFFOCATION, ROTTEN SOUND, and MAGRUDERGRIND. In 2005, guitarist and vocalist Mark Kloeppel (ex-CAST THE STONE) joined Jason, Adam and Sparky, solidifying the line-up for the next five years.
In 2006, second full-length “Discordia” was unleashed, followed by even more persistent touring with bands such as FEAR FACTORY, DESPISED ICON, JOB FOR A COWBOY, BENEATH THE MASSACRE, NECROPHAGIST and ORIGIN. In 2007, MISERY INDEX appeared on festivals like Hellfest in France and Tuska in Finland, as well as hitting places like 209, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Romania and Croatia for the first time. However, despite being on the road for months, MISERY INDEX were ready to finalise their third album, so recordings commenced with Kurt Ballou (CONVERGE) at God City Studios in May of 2008. Later that year “Traitors” was released and the band embarked on their next tour with ORIGIN and ABYSMAL DAWN right as the album was hitting stores. Reactions from both critics and fans were raving and the album showcased an exceptional return to form.
In 2008 and 2009, the band toured extensively, playing with and supporting bands such as THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, SOILENT GREEN, HATE ETERNAL, THE FACELESS, CANNIBAL CORPSE, PSYCROPTIC and many more, as well as seeing their first trips to places like Mexico, Russia and Iceland, an appearance on the prestigious Extreme the Dojo festivals in Japan, the Maryland Deathfest in Baltimore and European festivals such as Summer Breeze, Party.San, Hellfest, and Death Feast. Entering 2010, the band booked time at Wrightway Studios with producer Steve Wright in their home state of Maryland to commence recording of the fourth album.
MISERY INDEX released “Heirs to Thievery” in May 2010, dropping like a bomb on the Death Metal masses and shattering all expectations. The album was both a commercial and critical success, elevating the band into headlining slots in both Europe and the United States. “Heirs to Thievery” showcased the growing maturity and depth of the band, as the varied songwriting shifted naturally from nuanced, blasting technicality (“Fed to the Wolves”), through pit-inducing groove (“The Carrion Call”), to crushing heaviness (“The 7th Cavalry”). The growth and penetrating hooks of the songs took the band to new levels and was followed by several tours with bands such as GRAVE and AEON in Europe, PSYCROPTIC, ORIGIN, and DECAPITATED in Australia and DESPISED ICON, REVOCATION, JOB FOR A COWBOY, GOATWHORE, and EYEHATEGOD in North America. 2010 also saw the departure of long time guitarist Sparky Voyles, who was replaced by Darin Morris.
Festivals followed in 2011, with MISERY INDEX making appearances at Obscene Extreme, Tuska, With Full Force, Metalfest Open Air and Neurotic Death Fest, as well as seeing their first visit to countries such as Colombia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia. In 2012, the band made an appearance supporting CANNIBAL CORPSE on their US “Torture” tour, while also joining the Full of Hate festival tour in Europe alongside CANNIBAL CORPSE, BEHEMOTH and LEGION OF THE DAMNED. On the Munich date of the “Full of Hate” tour, the band recorded their first live album. The album will be released on numbered, die-cut vinyl and digital download in February 2013
Again recording at Wrightway studios in Baltimore, MISERY INDEX recorded and released “The Killing Gods” in May of 2014 via the French label Season of Mist. The album was their most critically acclaimed and top-selling album to date, and was followed by two videos for the songs “The Calling” and “The Harrowing,” as well as two European headlining tours, in the summer of 2014 and the summer of 2016. The band also performed two North American tours, one in 2015 with Hate Eternal, Rivers of Nihil and Beyond Creation, and one in 2016 with Napalm Death and the Black Dahlia Murder. In 2018 the band will reenter the studio to record their sixth album, due in 2018 on Season of Mist.

Talons are an instrumental band, who formed in the city of Hereford in 2008. They signed to Big Scary Monsters in 2009, releasing their debut single, 'The Pearl' on 7” vinyl as well as a split single with And So I Watch You From Afar, featuring the song “Bethlehem”. Two further singles followed in 2010, “Anthropods” and “Trevelyan”, which were then both featured on anthology release “Commemorations”, consisting of all previous recordings and demos.
The band recorded their debut album, “Hollow Realm” in the summer of 2010, with Tom Woodhead (¡Forward Russia!) at the helm as producer. It was released in November 2010, with the CD released by Big Scary Monsters and 12' vinyl by Topshelf Records. A special extended CD edition of the album was also released by Xtal Records in Japan. It received critical acclaim, notably from Mike Diver for BBC Music, Drowned In Sound, Rock Sound magazine and The Line of Best Fit. Following the album release, the band recorded a Radio 1 Maida Vale session for Huw Stephens as well as embarking on an extensive touring schedule across the UK and mainland Europe in support of the record.
Four years later, Talons returned with their second album, “New Topographics”. The album was recorded in July 2013 with long-time collaborator Tom Woodhead at Greenmount Studios, Leeds. “New Topographics” reflected a change in mood and tempo from previous material, incorporating stronger neo-classical influences as well as bringing a more rhythmic and expansive sound. The album again received high praise in the press from DIY magazine, Clash and Drowned in Sound. The album was also ranked #2 best album of 2014 by Already Heard website. In promoting the album Talons made notable appearances at ArcTanGent, Truck Festival, Damnation Festival and Tramlines, as well as support slots with Pianos Become the Teeth and Amenra.
In 2015 Talons began work on their third album back in Hereford, which built on the tonal and rhythmic shifts of their previous album in order to further refine and develop their sound. The album was recorded in August 2017, again at Greenmount Studios Leeds, but this time with Lee Smith and Jamie Lockhart at the controls. The album is set for release in July 2018 with Holy Roar Records.

After a debut album in 2016, 2017 would be the year of affirmation for Nowhere To Be Found, achieving what no other Portuguese band had ever done. They would go on to record with Swedish producer Henrik Udd, “2017 Producer of the Year” at the Heavy Music Awards, who worked with bands such as Bring Me The Horizon and Architects, and would master new songs in New York with Grammy award winner Ted Jensen - the sound engineer known for being the choice of industry giants such as Metallica, Green Day, Muse, Deftones, Slipknot, Paul McCartney, Madonna and Coldplay.
Confirming the new songs’ potentials, there have been collaborations with the likes of: Memphis May Fire’s front man Matty Mullins in the song “Traverse” and Emily Lazar from September Mourning in the song “Closer”.
In 2015, BalconyTV Lisbon considered them “band of the year” and NiT added “one unknown band you need to listen to right now”, thus gaining the first of their fame. May 2016 sees the launch of their debut album, Safe Haven, entirely produced and recorded in the trio’s rehearsing studio in Ericeira, which hit top 10 national digital sales in its first week. Closing out 2017´s year end, the band decided to assume a new identity and be reborn as “Nowhere To Be Found”. Now as a quartet with João Quintais (guitar) and with a new sound. The second studio album is set for 2018.

Originally formed in 2013 by guitarist Jeff Wilson and drummer Fernando Villalobos, Sludgehammer’s initial lineup came together with the addition of bassist/vocalist Daniel Ayers and lead vocalist Christopher Szarota. By the end of the year they released a demo which gained considerable ground. 2014’s Organ Harvester introduced Dan Ayers as a co vocalist, creating a unique sound that molded Sludgehammer into the band it is today. By the time they recorded the follow up, 2016’s The Fallen Sun, they had recruited guitarist Tyler Williams, who also proved to be a great recording engineer. With two guitar players, two vocalists and a crushing rhythm section, The Fallen Sun sounded massive and propelled Sludgehammer to much higher ground. The album was recorded and mixed by guitarist Tyler Williams, which gave Sludgehammer ultimate control over the final product. Unfortunately, the band parted ways with vocalist Chris Szarota 6 months after The Fallen Sun was released and Josh Stephney was brought on board to complete the album cycle. With the lineup finalized, Sludgehammer hit the road and laid waste to every stage they set foot on, showing their fans that they were now stronger than ever. After a few successful tours in support of The Fallen Sun, it was time to start writing the next record which will be the first to feature new vocalist Josh Stephney. The new material became less experimental than The Fallen Sun, focusing on writing the “sick riffs” and “heavy, versatile music” that their fans love, Sludgehammer are preparing to unleash a monstrous album in 2018. Whether on the road or in the studio, Sludgehammer deliver the goods with astounding precision and the confidence of a world class band. Stay tuned!
