  • Rusty Shipp

    Rusty Shipp

True to their name, Nashville’s Rusty Shipp have created a sound known asNautical Rock ‘n’ Roll. Characterized by its dark, underwater sound, haunting vocals, and unconventional, heavy riffs, the music is a perfect fusion of grunge and surf rock, though it is most memorable for the Beatlesque chord progressions and vocal melodies at the core of every song. The band won Indieville Performer of the Year in 2016, and finally began scoring international recognition in 2017 with the release of their first full album,Mortal Ghost, from outfits like Pure Grain Audio, The Metal Review, andJesusFreakHideout.com, making second place on the 'JFH Staff Picks - Top Ten Albums of the Year for 2017' for the Mortal Ghost album, as well as winning Artist of the Year and Album of the Year in the 2018 JFH Awards.

At the forefront of the group is the singer-songwriter and guitarist, Russ T. Shipp (literally his birth name), followed by Eli Apperson on lead guitar, Michael Craft on bass, and AJ Newton on drums. Russ T. has his own signature sound, weaving his raspy voice in and out of falsetto and vibrato; at times sounding like a “higher-pitched Kurt Cobain,” as one music critic put it, and other times like a ghost.

Russ T. was once asked in an interview why Rusty Shipp was worth listening to in an industry already so crowded with bands. He responded, “I really think what we have are the best songs on the market, because I'm convinced that I out-work and out-think the average songwriter. I've put over 10,000 hours into songwriting, and now I have a vast arsenal of interesting music fragments to choose from when assembling songs. So you'll never, ever hear any filler on a Rusty Shipp recording. Every part of every song is meticulously plotted out with the best bits of music and ideas I've accumulated for more than a decade.”

He cites The Beatles as his biggest influence for their emphasis on peculiar, but catchy, chords, riffs, and melodies. “Though we're noticeably darker and more aggressive than The Beatles,” Russ T. explains, “Their form of songwriting resonates with the largest number of human beings, and we try to tap into that same magic. Bands like Nirvana and Muse did the same thing, but we're taking it in an even more philosophical direction, while still having fun by incorporating the nautical theme.”

  • The Slyde

    The Slyde

Following up with 2017's EP release 'Back Again', Canadian melodic proggers The Slyde return with their first full length effort titled 'Awakening'.  The band (formerly known as just Slyde) will drop ten tracks of the intricate, contrapuntal prog rock they've honed over the last decade, on May 18 2018.

In true prog fashion, The Slyde stays true to their mission statement with their quirky arrangements, aggressive edge, and ominous lyrics.  The result is a thought provoking, high-octane album for fans of Rush, Dream Theater, Haken, Coheed and Cambria, and Megadeth.  Driven by Nathan Da Silva’s elegant vocals, Sarah Westbrook's powering keyboard skills, and the powerful rhythm section of Alberto Campuzano and Brendan Soares, the band are to catch the ears of any technically minded melodic prog rock fan.

The Slyde has played over 170 shows on the Eastern Canadian circuit, sharing the stage with such bands as Protest The Hero, Down With Webster, Pain of Salvation, F*ck The Facts, Dana Fuchs, and Timber Timbre among others, and have made appearances at Ottawa Bluesfest, Canadian Music Week, IndieWeek, and Wacken Metal Battle Canada.

  • Ratbreed

    Ratbreed

Formed in 2015, Ratbreed have quickly established themselves as one of the most promising acts in Finnish heavy metal scene. Their first gig took place at the legendary Ravintolalaiva Wäiski in Helsinki on April 16th 2016 and was soon followed by more live shows in Helsinki area. The band gained reputation as a hard rocking live act at local clubs like On The Rocks, Elmun Baari and Kulttuuritalo, where they supported Finnish alternative metal pioneers Waltari at their 30th anniversary show.

In the spring of 2017 the band thought they had enough material to record an album. They entered Deep Noise Studios (Kouvola, Finland) with Juho Räihä to record the drums and shortly after recorded all other instruments and vocals at the guitarist Markus Taipale’s home studio. In December 2017 the album was mixed and mastered in Kouvola (again by mr. Räihä) at Sound Spiral Audio. (Wolfheart, Profane Omen, Before The Dawn)

The album is entitled “Evoke The Blaze” and will be released through Inverse Records on Friday the 13th of July 2018.

  • MOUNTAINS TO MOVE

    MOUNTAINS TO MOVE

Mountains To Move blend emotionally filled clean parts with wall breaking heavier choruses, to which you can bang (or hang) your head. The heartfelt lyrics illustrate the personal struggles and anxieties of an individual lost in a world that spins too fast under his feet. Captivating, yet haunting you to the deepest core of your heart.

Over the last two years, Mountains To Move have been making quite a name for themselves. Their demo ‘What Ifs and Could Have Beens’ earned them a lot of shows all over Belgium, from smaller shows to support slots for bands such as The Front Bottoms, You Blew It!, Foxing and Tigers Jaw. With their debut EP 'Cotard' they went the extra mile, earning raving reviews from all over. Their live show is the perfect compliment to their music.
