Wavebomb discuss the music scene in Singapore and debut single!

We're starting the week with a brand new interview, introducing you guys to the Taiwanese-French two-piece rock band, Wavebomb. Hello Wavebomb! Hope you’re well. Would it be possible to introduce your band to our readers, as well as your roles in it? Hi Valentine! Thanks for having us! So, we are a Taiwanese-French two-piece rock band based in Singapore, influenced by The Black Keys, The White Stripes and DZ Deathrays. Charlotte is on the drums while I (Anthony) am on guitar and vocals. How would you describe the underground scene in Singapore? The underground scene is a small community in Singapore, as a city that focuses mostly on expensive hobbies such as golf, classical orchestras, or fine dining. Before the Covid-19 pandemic, the number of underground venues already started to strongly decline… But maybe after a year without any cultural events, more people will find interest in this scene. The biggest part of the music scene is made of cover bands, it is something much more popular than in Europe. I guess it attracts more people in the pubs here, where people prefer to listen to something already familiar rather than discovering new artists. You've recently released your debut single, “Facing Waves”. What's the story behind this song? ‘Facing Waves’ is about living in your own world, until reality catches up to you. As things are becoming too dark and complicated, you want to go back to summertime, when life is often lighter. Many times, I find quite it quite comfortable to bury my head in the sand instead of facing problems, but in most cases the more you wait, the more the resolution is tricky!
This single was released along with a music video. How was the shooting experience? Any story to share with our readers? The shooting was pretty fun, no need to wear a mask when you are already wearing a full dinosaur costume! Living in big city, we often feel that we live in a world where we don’t belong, surrounded by people who do not understand us, always ready to judge us or to bring us down, as we don’t focus on the same aspects of life. This is what we wanted to show in the music video in a more surrealist way, with a TV Head guy living in a world full of dinosaurs. The whole message behind the MV is to stay yourself, to stay weird and don’t give up until your find your own way and accept yourself.
I’m sure you are, like a lot of people, missing live shows. Do you already have some dates planned for 2021? Not yet, unfortunately shows are still forbidden here except a few national events. On top of this, we have strong border restrictions so we cannot exit the country easily until further notice… So we cannot plan tours elsewhere as well.  We can only wait, wear a mask and hope the situation improves quickly. Apart from live shows, what are your other plans for this year? An EP, maybe? We have just shot a new music video, so we are now preparing the release of this new single. We will then release a few more singles and maybe an EP by the end of the year! To finish, what is one lesson you’ve learned that you think is important to pass onto other bands? I think it is important to support other bands, to stay united as a community and to help each other. It will help your scene to grow and everyone will enjoy it.
