It's release day for Sinka! The alternative rockers are today proud to reveal their sophomore EP “Take Me to The Skies”. On this occasion, we got the opportunity to chat with them about this new release... Check out the full interview below! SINKA
Band picture by Gary Sears Photography Hello SINKA, thanks for your time. Would it be possible to introduce your band to our readers, as well as your roles in it? Hey Distrolution, thank you for chatting to us! We are SINKA, an Alt-rock band from Watford made up of Shaun Sewell-Sears on guitar and vocals, Matt Smith on bass, and Jack Wright on drums! With a worldwide pandemic going on, how have you handled the management of your band over the past few months?   It’s been difficult, like everyone lockdown came in and we had to stop performing, rehearsing and pause all plans for recording. Fortunately, we were able to continue writing independently which left us in a great position once lockdown 1 ended. We seized this time to head into the studio with our good friend, and producer of our previous single Fussy, Elliott Millman. It was great to be able to record this independently as it opened up our opportunities to record remotely and from home. WIth the record finished and ready to release now, we are so excited to head out and perform as soon as restrictions are lifted and we are fully allowed! You've recently unveiled your single, “Messiah”. Where did you find your overall inspiration for this song and what’s the story behind it? The song is basically about finding peace as a person who does not believe in god, and the internal conflict that comes with it. But more than that, the chorus lyric is an all-encompassing metaphor for if there’s something out there, prove it!
The single is taken from your sophomore EP “Take Me to The Skies” which releases today, April 16th. Any funny stories to share from your recording or writing sessions? The best part of recording the EP was being able to be together again. We were lucky to be able to record in the gaps between lockdown 1 & 2, so after being forced to take a break from performing we enjoyed being able to sit down, play some Playstation and record our tracks!
Is there one song that, according to you, best reflects the overall spirit of this record? If yes, which one and why? I think that the two singles that we have released so far are a great representation of the entire album. Skies being the title track inspired the artwork, and therefore a lot of the visuals that went into our production after that. I believe Skies was the first track we finished, and we couldn't wait for everyone to hear it. So it's brilliant that the songs are almost all released, we can’t wait for everyone to hear the remaining tracks! Can we talk about the process of creating the artwork of your album and the overall idea behind this visual? The title track from Take Me To The Skies was one that stood out to all of us as very cinematic and inspired the visuals for an upcoming music video. We took the concept to another good friend of the band Sam Rogers who created the artwork for the EP, and we thought it was perfect! We’re hoping to be able to create some really cool videos as well, to really bring the album to life lockdown permitting! Sinka - Artwork
To finish, what is one lesson you’ve learned that you think is important to pass onto other bands? I think a lesson that we and a lot of other bands/people/businesses across the world will have learnt throughout Covid, is that persistence and determination is key. It’s been a very difficult year for all of us, and the music industry has taken a particularly hard knock. We love all aspects of being in a band and hope we can continue and have a brilliant 2021!
