Punks Screaming At Traffic talk about their album “I Don't Like Sports”!

Jacques, from the Canadian punk rock band Screaming At Traffic, took some time to answer a couple of questions for Distrolution. Check out the full interview below! Screaming at Traffic
Hello Screaming At Traffic! Thanks for taking time to answer a couple of questions for us. Would you mind introducing your band to our readers? Thank you! We’re a punk rock band called Screaming at Traffic from Winnipeg, Manitoba. There’s four of us, Duncan Murta, who plays guitar and sings, Paul Colman who plays bass and does backing vocals, Stefan St. Godard who drums, and myself, Jacques Richer, who also plays guitar and sings. How's the punk rock scene in Winnipeg? The punk rock scene in Winnipeg is great! Any given weekend there is at least one great show happening. It can honestly be exhausting but it’s a good problem for a city to have, I think. We also have some great local promoters who bring a lot of fantastic punk bands to Winnipeg. As well as host local gigs, Ninjacat Productions and Big Bear Productions both come to mind. You've unveiled your album “I Don't Like Sports” back in June 2019. How long have you worked on this release? We started recording the album back in the spring of 2018. Originally, we were going to take our time to either shop the album around to some labels or release independently. But we ended up getting noticed and signed with Little Rocket Records before the album was finished. Of course getting pressings done and organized with the label pushed the album release a little bit from when we were originally hoping to release. But we used the time to film four music videos for singles off the album, which you can indeed find on our Youtube or Facebook pages.
Where did you find your inspiration for this record? On the lyrical side of things, I tried to stick to writing about personal experiences and about things I’ve been through. That may seem a little obvious, but I didn’t always write like that. The songs I wrote on this record are all pretty honest, even the ones that may seem like I’m singing less seriously.  If you had to pick one song that, according to you, best reflects the spirit of “I Don't Like Sports”… Which one would it be and why? I think the title track, I Don’t Like Sports is a pretty good indicator of what the album is like…. A lot of the music is upbeat and fast, whereas the lyrical content is kind of dark. I always like to joke saying that our music is stuck between sad and angry. And I think I Don’t Like Sports is a good example of that.
You guys are touring a lot. What do you like most about being on tour? Honestly, I love being on tour. One of the coolest things is getting to know the music communities in different cities, and playing with fantastic bands in their hometowns. I always make sure to put a lot of research into the local music scene to find the perfect openers for us in each city. And we’ve made some lifelong friends out of it for sure.   The last words are for you. If you have any other projects in the making for 2020, here’s your chance to talk about it! We’ve always joked about hating being the band that just says that big things are coming without any details. But with that being said there are definitely big things coming for 2020 haha. We have started planning out the year already and it’s definitely shaping up to be a big one for us. We unfortunately aren’t able to give out too much information at the moment, but we will be doing some writing for album #
