Out of Service talk about their sophomore album “Burden”!

Picture: Credit to the photographer Hello, Out of Service! Thanks for taking time to answer a couple of questions for us. Would you mind introducing your band to our readers? Hello! We are an alt rock band rooted in emo from Philadelphia! We consist of Bryan Williams on Guitar, Mike Capuano on vocals, Brian McGovern on bass, and Kenny Bond on drums. How would you describe the Philadelphia alternative rock scene? The Philadelphia music scene is a blossoming one filled with a ton of incredible bands. I feel like every week I hear about a new great band from Philly. Some of my current favorite local bands include, Cara Cara, Harmony Woods, and Birthday Boy. Your sophomore album “Burden” was released on November 22nd. How long have you worked on this record? We started working on this album back in September of 2018. We then demoed from October 2018 to March 2019. From there we began the recording process that went from March to August. One of the really cool things about working on a record for that long is you really get to see the songs take shape over time. If you had to pick one song that, according to you, best reflects the spirit of this album... Which one would it be and why? Burden. One of the reasons we picked this song as the title track for the record is because it shows a lot of things that we do well as a band. From the quieter parts in the beginning of the song to the loud heavy outro. What is this album about in general? Burden is a concept record about depression, getting help, and learning to live with mental illness. It chronicles our singer’s journey with depression and anxiety that broke him almost two years ago. We hope this record is able to help anyone going through any type of similar experiences that are covered over the course of the record. Do you currently have any other projects in the making? We recorded a couple of songs that were mixed by Mat Kerekes from Citizen. 1 or 2 of those may see the light of day in the more distant future. Right now our main focus is supporting the new record and getting it to as many people as possible. The last words are for you. If you have a message to convey, here’s your chance! We just hope that people are able to take some sort of enjoyment in the music we create. Whether it be lyrically, musically, or a little bit of both. Also we appreciate the interview and are thankful to you for taking the time to inquire about our band! Thanks for your time!
