Get to know the French punk rockers Mercredi in our new interview!

Picture: Julie Rodriguez Photographe Hello Mercredi! Thanks for taking time to answer a couple of questions for us. Would you mind introducing your band to our readers? Tam: Hi everyone! We are MERCREDI, a punk rock band from Montpellier, in the south west of France. The band was formed in 2016. The following year, a first EP was recorded, but the bass player left the band. The band was on a break. I joined MERCREDI in March 2019. And since then, we’ve found our way back to rehearsal space and studio. I’m the new bass player. Youce is the singer of the band, plays guitar and composes the songs and Ben is the drummer. You've just dropped a split with Blex XPerience. Where did this idea of working with them come from? Youce: I knew PCT music because of the French band IMMATURES. I was following this band and learned about their collaboration with PCT. And when I saw that it was possible for MERCREDI to be part of this catalog, I contacted Eric. He offered us a split with Blex Xperience and we went to the studio to record 5 tracks. https://open.spotify.com/album/3ouXgyZQwASXyXuc88vwP5 What's your favorite song on this split and why? Tam: For me, I would say “En Construction” from Blex XPerience. It’s the only ska bit of the split, the bass line and lyrics are funny. I like the mix between ska and metal. As for our songs, I have a preference for “Mieux Avant”, cause it was one of the first tracks I worked on when I joined the band. https://open.spotify.com/track/5xUE1lQkwZ6GXUC19PhZyJ You also plan on releasing an album in 2020. Can you tell us more about this upcoming release? Tam: This will be our first album. And we are very honored to record it with SPI (OTH/Les Naufragés). We start recording next month. How long have you worked on this record? Tam: Since the beginning of the band in a way. There will be songs written at the very beginning of the formation as well as new ones. We can’t wait to finally record this album. You also have a tour scheduled for April 2020. Where will you go and how excited are you? Tam: We plan on doing a big tour in September/October. For the moment, we will mainly devote our time to the recording of the album. Of course we’ll make gigs in the meantime. We will play in Montpellier but we will gradually add dates, especially in the south east and south west of France (but not only). We can’t tell you anything more but you will have all the information on our Facebook page. And if you want us to play, don’t hesitate to contact us. The last words are for you. If you have any other projects in the making, here’s your chance to talk about it! Tam: I‘m planning to found an association to organize gigs in and around Montpellier. And I’m gonna keep playing with my other band ANGRY SOMETIMES. And who knows? Maybe a tour in Canada or/and France with Blex XPerience/MERCREDI in 2020 or 2021! Thanks for your time!
