Germany has a lot of hidden talents: Meet Desasterkids!

Germany has a lot of hidden talents and here's one of them. Desasterkids is indeed a metalcore band, hailing from Berlin, Germany. The guys are also signed to Uncle M Music. We got the chance to discuss, thanks to Iain, about the band's latest record, “Superhuman”. Check out the answers below!

Hello Desasterkids. Hope you're doing great? First of all, thanks for taking time to chat with me. For those who are not familiar with your band, could you please introduce yourselves, as well as your roles in the band? Hi there, we are Desasterkids from Berlin Germany. My name is Iain, I sing and play guitar, theres our other vocalist Andi, as well as our drummer tommy and other guitarist Max. For those who have never heard your songs, how would you describe your sound, overall? We probably sound like advanced NuMetal, at least thats the vibe we're going for. We started out as straight Metalcore, but we've given it a high dosage of 2000's NuMetal influences, of Korn, Slipknot, Spineshank and the likes. Real good fun to play! I understood that the main purpose of your band, is to face the pressure and the complexity of the metal scene. Am I right? Not really, our main purpose is to play awesome shows together! Lyrically, we do face the pressures of the everyday world that come upon us all, down to self fullfilment and self-esteem. We have recently used our voice we have as a band to point out faults of this scene. Especially the homophobia still very existent in our scene. Despite the face that we're half way to 2019, there is still a lot of stigma which we adress freely. Your new record, “Superhuman”, is out since August 3rd 2018! For those who haven't heard it yet, what kind of songs can we indeed expect on this record? It's like all bands say, the best we've ever made, haha! You can expect a colorful mix of styles, catchy hooks, deep topics, a numetal album played by a metalcore band, basically. Some songs are very soft and slow, deep and thoughtful, while others are designed to simply be heavy. This time, instead of trying to make a “hit” our of each song, we tried to fusion soft with soft and heavy with heavy. This way, we got a lot of really good songs out of this album, that have educated us so much in terms of songwriting.

Let’s focus on your writing process. How did you approach it, for this new release? This time, we wanted to make good songs, rather than technically advanced songs or complicated rhythms, simply good songs. The approch to just create a full album of “hit-worthy” songs can't even succeed anyway, so when collecting demos, we already knew, that rather than trying to give each song the poppiest chorus, the best hook, the simplest structure, we just picked out 4/5 chorusses we liked and worked our way from there. This way we got a few really soft and catchy songs, a few semi-heavy songs and a few absolute bangers, designed to simply be heavy. It’s always hard to pick one song on a release. But from your personal point of views, which song is your favorite one on this album, and why? Probably, I would go for Pentagram, the reason being, that I just love it's heaviness. While writing the album, we ended up tuning lower, to drop G and thats kind of what came our first. I've always wanted to work in all these NuMetal vibes, I think this song got the most. Last but not least, how would you describe each member of the band? We're all very different people. Andi is for example more of a quite guy behind the scenes, Tommy is more outgoing. Max is also more the quiet guy but great for deeper talks and also tech-talk. Tommy is really funny, loves to laugh and joke a lot. We all give each other good vibes in great variety. In other parts of our lives, we all expirience a lot at the moment, Tommy's modelling career has also taken off, I'm discovering new horizons as a songwriter, Max is now married and Andi also works for an advertising agency, so we all put together all our expertise into the project to improve. We've also been together since 2013, so we know each other very well. Thanks for your time! No Problem, cheers, Iain
