German hardcore band Kill Her First has a busy year ahead!

Hello guys. How are you doing? Feeling good, thanks. Although physically aching a bit after an intense weekend in the studio. Would you mind introducing your band Kill Her First to our readers? Our band has been around for over a decade and has seen plenty of lineup changes. Kill Her First started as an all-female melodic hardcore band looking to stir up some shit. Obviously, there’s David on drums now – but we’re still one of the few female-fronted heavy bands in Germany and we still represent the same values we always had. We are against homophobia, sexism, racism. We believe in connecting to people live and through the stereo. Your last single “Street Dog vs. Eagle” was released back in December. What’s the story behind this song? It was so exciting to release this first track – it’s the first recording by our new lineup. It shows a new direction in sound and a return to bold, heavy rhythms. Lyrically, it’s probably the most autobiographic thing we’ve done. Our singer Gero was kicked out at
15. This song is about her journey and ongoing struggles along the way. In the end, we want to leave the listener with the clear message to never give up. It may be tough but “don’t lose hope / spread your wings / fly high”. It’s so important to us, we even made stickers of this lyric. How’s your usual writing process? Usually, Sophie (guitar) and David (drums) get together and jam riffs, breakdowns and melodies. There’s a constant flow of idea fragments – the trick is to hold on to them and match them until they fit. Once a rough song structure is finished, we add lyrics and vocal melodies. You are in the studio this month for a cover compilation benefitting Solidarity Not Silence. Can you tell us more about this project? We just wrapped recording a song covering our KROD label mates Colour Me Wednesday from the UK. It will be part of a sampler supporting Solidarity Not Silence. That campaign is about a group of female musicians fighting to have their voices heard as they speak up against misogyny and mistreatment. As a band that brings together a cross section of identities and personalities, this is a topic we care about deeply. The sampler will come out in March on KROD Records.

Are you currently working on any other projects? If yes, can we talk about it? We are writing an album at the moment. This spring, we will launch a crowdfunding campaign with a lot of cool incentives. We believe in DIY but we need some support to make this record the best it can be. The material we already have is really exciting and we can’t wait to share it. The last words are for you, thanks for your time! For now, listen to our latest song “Street Dog vs. Eagle” and spread the word. Thanks so much for your time.
