Dead Tree Seeds talk about their record “Push the Button”

Hello Dead Tree Seeds, thanks for your time. How have you been doing over the past few months? Alex: Hello it’s a pleasure for us. To be honest it’s difficult right now like all bands and everyone, but we’re working to stay alive (writing our next album and working for an EP to be issued beginning 2022). Would you mind introducing your band to our readers? Alex: Dead tree seeds is a thrash metal band formed in 2009/2010 with franck Vortex (vocals), Aurelien (french thrasher) Franzoua (guitars), Sidi (bass) and alex (drums). You have revealed, back in 2020, your second album “Push the Button”. How long have you worked on this record and where did you find your overall inspiration? Aurel (guitars): We started working on the new songs in 2015 and we quickly got 10 songs. However, with the line up issues, the album was released only 5 years later. As for the inspiration, I jam on my guitar, find some riffs and ideas and I record a demo for the songs. Then, I share it with the others and we work together for the arrangements. Any funny stories to share from your recording or writing sessions? Aurel (guitars): We started recording the album at the end of 2017. At this time we were only 3 in the band: Alex on drums, Sidi on bass and me on the guitars. So we recorded instrumental versions of the songs while trying out different singers. We find the one in fall 2018 and he did the vocals in summer 2019. Then mixing, mastering, covid19 lol and finally the album is out! It was a long journey, we needed to be patient. Hopefully now that the line up is stable, things will be faster. Is there one song that, according to you, best reflects the overall spirit of this record? If yes, which one and why? Frank: the song that best reflects the spirit of this record is the title track "Push the Button". Every single element of this song represents the album and in particular the band: the thrashing powerful riffs, the fast tempos , the lyrics about regimes and who has the real power, the twins guitars during the solos. Can we talk about the process of creating the artwork and the overall idea behind this visual? Frank: the process of creating the artwork was an important step. First: the choice of the "painter". In my opinion, the designer should better be a metalhead to understand the message with a metal attitude. This was our case, we found the good guy. He understood the real message of the LP. So the cover is based on themes of the lyrics of most of the songs: massacres and abuses piloted by the lobbies thru the first world governments. The result for the choice of characters and colours has a big impact on the audience.

I’m sure you are, like a lot of people, missing live shows. Do you already have some dates planned for 2021 / 2022? Alex: We had booked shows in 2020, but of course it wasn't possible to do anything at this period. We hope that those dates may be possible soon. We’re working on booking an european tour but we’re sure of nothing at this stage. To finish, what is one lesson you’ve learned that you think is important to pass onto other bands? Amateur or professional musicians, you will find a lot of barriers (for example line up issues, covid…), but with perseverance and hardworking, you will be able to have really cool moments. Thanks for your time!
